Waiting on Wednesday (46)

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Her star power in demand on a hit Broadway play, Hollywood teen starlet Kaitlin Burke packs up her entourage (ok, her showbiz family, friends, assistant, and publicist, but not the dreamy boyfriend) and moves to the Big Apple for the summer. Kaitlin is the toast of the town and she hits the most exclusive New York nightspots, enjoys the best food (Hello, Magnolia Bakery), and even guests as a celebrity host on Saturday Night Live! But New York isn't all cupcakes and virgin daiquiris. Long distance and a handsome new costar put a huge strain on her relationship with Austin, and it turns out Broadway divas are a whole different breed of neuroses and competition from Hollywood starlets.
I love this series! BROADWAY LIGHTS by Jen Calonita will be released March 1st 2010.

The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox

Finally, a book that guarantees your balls will be stomped; a book so manly that it will make even the burliest of men (and in some cases, the burliest of women) feel inadequate. So manly, it needs to be shaved: The Alphabet of Manliness. This collection of sacred writings may very well be the greatest compilation of all things manly throughout history. Here's a small sample of the ass-kickery found within these revered pages of outright manliness:

· People getting drop-kicked in the face
· Phallic aggression
· Violence in excess of what has come to be known as excessive
· Garish disregard for the well-being of children
· Contempt for animals, women, and other cultures
· Shit jokes
· Intimidating rhetoric
· Obscure penile references
· The triumph of flannel over good taste

This book is only for the saltiest, hairiest, most rugged son of a bitch out there. However, it would be selfish to keep it for myself, so feel free to buy a copy. This humble tome of wisdom is a tribute to all men who toil away at work every day, getting their balls busted, or busting balls.

If you can't handle the punch to the colon I'm about to deliver to you, look on the bright side: you'll save a fortune on Halloween when kids come to your door to pick apart your candy ass. On the other hand, if you feel comfortable with the risk of having your ass neatly packaged and handed to you with all the trimmings, cut the foreplay and crack the book open already.

What an AWESOME book! Here's how I came across it: I was reading in a bookstore right near the humour section and I looked up and I saw THE ALPHABET OF MANLINESS, which immediatly intrigued me. I picked it up and read some of it, and it was great. But I didn't buy it. Instead I told my family and friends about this awesome book called THE ALPHABET OF MANLINESS. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I had to buy it, and I did.

I was not quite sure that I would enjoy this book as much as I thought I would BUT I DID. My expectations far surpasses what I thought they'd be. It's a really funny book. My favorite chapter was probably 'L is for Lumberjacks'. I don't know why, I just remember enjoying that chapter alot.

Maddox has a really great imagination and I loved his stories that were in chapters such as 'N is for Norris, Chuck'. You should definatly check out his website, The Best Page in the Universe and watch his book tour for this book on youtube, and stuff. It's excellent.

I only hope that Maddox writes another book really really soon!

Waiting on Wednesday (45)

Since she can remember, Katarina's relatives have been grooming her for the family business--thieving. But when Kat tries to go straight and leave the Life for a normal life, she's promptly kicked out of her new school for stealing the headmaster's car and mounting it on the school fountain. Although she could have done it without breaking a sweat, ironically, this time, she's innocent.

In fact she was framed--by another highly-skilled thief. Her friend and brother-in-trade Hale, with his mischievous smile and limitless bank account, has appeared out of nowhere to bring her back to the Life, back to the family Kat tried so hard to escape. Hale has a good reason: A powerful mobster has just been robbed of his priceless art collection and he wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have cracked this vault, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he IS the list. Now, caught between Interpol and a far more deadly predator, Kat's dad needs her help.

For Kat, a consummate thief in her own right, the solution is simple: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and maybe just enough misguided pride to pull off the biggest heist in history--or at least in her family's (very crooked) history.

HEIST SOCIETY by Ally Carter will be released in a few days-- February 9th 2010

Lip Gloss Jungle by Melissa de la Cruz

Lauren Page's plan was simple: get a fabulous makeover, become one of the Ashleys, and once she was securely in their trenches, completely destroy them from the inside. The only problem is, now that Lauren is seventh-grade royalty she isn't so sure she wants to follow through — especially because Sadie, her former best friend and current best frenemy, has formed a new plan to bring down the Ashleys in all of her own fabulous makeover glory.

Now Lauren's plan of action has changed: to save the Ashleys. But with Ashley dating a penniless blue-collar, Lili shunning makeup and fashion, and A.A. questioning Ashley's loyalty, can it be done? Or will the Ashleys actually go down?

I really enjoyed spending some more time with the Ashleys.

I'm quite sad this is the last book in the series as I've gotten to know the characters. Once I got into the book, it was a very quick read. It's very much like the Clique series, I suppose.

What bothers me the most about these girls is that they look down on vintage. Vintage is fantastic! At least Lili started to challenge Ashley's rule that they must dress similar, have the same bag and such.

A.A. is probably my favorite character because she still bike rides and plays video games and such. De la Cruz had lots of plot in LIP GLOSS JUNGLE, creating multiple things for the Ashleys to be anxious about. LIP GLOSS JUNGLE was fairly predictable in the sense that once the character started to question stuff and think, it was obvious that her suspicions were correct. And stuff like that.

All in all, I enjoyed this book as it is quite entertaining.
